Solution Development Example: Research and Development (R&D) Stakeholders

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

The R&D department of this global engineering company often initiates projects to look at new technologies in the marketplace. Their focus was the potential applications of drone technology to drive value for the company. In the past, they conducted these exercises as video conferencing meetings. These stakeholder engagements resulted in too many no-shows because of time zones, poor levels of engagement by those that did attend and the quality and volume of solution ideas were less than they had hoped.

50 internal and external stakeholders from different global regions, with different backgrounds and varying levels of seniority were engaged in a Solution Loop, identifying applications for the new drone technology.

The engagement was facilitated over two weeks with a few short “My time” thinking events and one short teleconference. The team identified over 75 creative applications and prioritized these to the top 3 with the best “do-ability” and potential value impact.

Solution Loops Deliver!

The organization was thrilled with the results, including…

  1. millions of dollars of added value were identified, and the project stakeholders had engaged with an innovation versus risk lens.

  2. 90% stakeholder engagement globally which created a demand for future exercises.

  3. a great internal success story demonstrating the value of inclusion & diversity to the bottom line!
